I just love this horn, having played a Holton Del Negro CC from 1963 to 1998, when I got it on eBay. Yes, it's heavy, but that accounts for the depth of its sound, comparable in quality to an old Holton or York (but without leaks, and in the case of mine, superb intonation over three octaves). It's a fabulous horn for jazz playing, used with a Yamaha Roger Bobo concert mouthpiece, with a focused, unfoggy sound on legato runs, and spectacular sforzando that's nearly percussive. The low register speaks beautifully as well.

I'm forever in Harvey Phillips's debt for his inspiration in making this horn a reality. My Del Negro is earning some good retirement time in the pasture of my closet.
