Like you said about the MW 25 for a High School. It's common for me to work on 20-30 year old Meinl Westons that were tortured by students. You won't find a stronger supporter of the MW 18 than me, but I do NOT recommend it for school use. With it's smaller 16" bell that contributes to it's special sound, it is too easily tipped over when rested on the bell. Save the MW 18 tubas for the adults who can appreciate what they have.
The one classic horn you forgot to mention was the Conn 5J. It is a 7/8 sized horn with a nice wide 18" bell that makes it look like a bigger horn than it really is. Like the MW 18, the Conn 5J also has great intonation. Let's face it. Middle schoolers are not pulling slides, yet. The 5J can be had for the same kind of money or less than a MW 18.
