a nice, wierd unaccompanied piece works for me. I'm an egoist and I force people to come hear me do recitals about twice a year. It just seems like Encounters or Penderecki or Demon Gods really catches the audience's attention. Then, when you follow it with an accompanied contemporary piece which is not quite so "out there" the audience seems doubly impressed and maybe a little relieved that not everything is going to be so challenging to sit through.
