Why are you playing the Plog if you "have never really enjoyed listening to that piece and am wondering if it will bore the audience?" I assume you've heard Perantoni play it. One of the most exciting openers I've ever heard was him doing it at some tuba conference. He just sat down and began to play as out of nowhere. It very much has that, "Ooh, I didn't know a tuba could do that," kind of appeal. Try thinking about it in those terms, and if you still don't like it, don't do it. Unless you want to.
