If you'll study the Stradivarius, you'll find that it, too, is assymetrical, unlike most of the modern copies. I know a violin maker of high repute who was able to measure several museum examples during his studies in Cremona.
For example, most true Strads have f holes that don't line up.
My friend believes that it is these imperfections that make a Strad a Strad.
