I have heard many mention that funnel cupped mps work better on piston horns while more bowl shaped mps work better on rotary valved horns. I can not personally say either or as I have not put that much thought into it when playing different horns. All of my horns have pistons and I use all Helleberg style mps. This is because they work for me and my horns. I say just play what you sound best on and do not look back.
