I was embarrased to tell people that our PROFESSIONAL organization was calld the "Tubists Universal Brotherhood Association." Does that sound professional to anyone?
The idea of TUBA has a place in our community; I think it's great that we have a close knit group that isn't as crazily cut-throat as it is for others.
We already are laughed at as professionals and musicians. Did we really need our PROFESSIONAL organization to foster the stereotypes of "the tuba?"
For all those who threatened to quit after the name change or actually did so... perhaps I'm among the first to confess that I quit because I was embarrased of the TUBA name. I have now rejoined. ITEA may not be as interesting in nomanclature, but it cannot be disputed that it is more professional.
