I THINK the leadpipes are the same. Years ago, Mirafone had TWO leadpipes. One had a lot of taper, that is, started smaller and expanded to the .770 size. And the other (older) pipe had LESS taper, started larger, expanded to .770. It is possible that the 188's have the OLDER-style pipe. This makes the air go through the pipe slower, making the sound slightly warmer in character. The other consideration is that at that point of contact, the 188 bell is quite a bit larger than the bell on a 186. This would make the leadpipe harder to fit.
