I would like to respectfully offer my own observations about the small Yamaha (YCB-621) that Chuck Dallenbach used for years. I think that the sound qualities of the tuba, in general, has an extraordinarily profound effect on the sound of a quintet. The sound of that horn was lighter than most, and as such had a wonderful effect on the overall sound of the quintet....it made for five EQUALLY balanced voices....more of a "chamber" sound, rather than a heavy brass sound. I personally miss his use of that horn, and wish he would go back.....
One man's opinion....
