I can't compare it to any of the recordings already mentioned, but I love the tape I have of the Bruckner 7th performed by Riccardo Chailly and the Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. This group seems to have a special feel for Bruckner. The brass section is not especially exposed or heavy-sounding. Rather, it blends into the overall orchestral fabric in a very beautiful way. The liner notes indicate this London label recording (from June 1984) was done in the Jesus-Christus-Kirche Berlin. Perhaps that building's acoustics tame the brass sounds a bit, but my guess is that that blend is by design and not because of the physical setting in which the orchestra performed.
