Why not measure the diameter of the EXISTING pipe at a point that might be a desirable endpoint for both pitch AND ergonomics?

If the existing pipe isn't much large in diameter one inch back of its current endpoint, carefully cut the dang thing shorter and tranfer the receiver and the receiver brace to their new required positions.

Am I missing something, or do you not have much to loose by pursuing this avenue?

(Back when I was accepting outside work, I restored a Reynolds baritone that had extensive engraving on it where the Reynolds Co. was bragging that it was used in the production of the musical motion picture, "The Music Man". ' sort of funny. A guy who looked like he was a member of Hell's Angels brought it in and spoke very endearingly towards it, making sure that I would only gently polish around all of that engraving.)
