I've been wondering the same thing myself.

Here's the key: They take turns. Clocks have been dormant for several years. It's winter, so triathlon training is down to minimum maintenance. That leaves time for photography and tubas, though both have been kicked in the teeth by my work travel schedule (five of the last six weeks on the road). Of course, another hobby is talking about my hobbies, and that's easy to do when traveling or when stuck at the office.

Fortunately, my wife enjoys many of the same hobbies, at least at some level. We both take pictures. She rides her bike with me when I run long. She shops for her sorts of antiques and I look at clocks. She plays the piano or with her pet rabbit (sigh) while I blow the horn. It works out. When you wait as long as we did, you get used to the single lifestyle, and you don't depend on the other for entertainment every minute.
