On the other hand, John Lennon didn't engrave his name into the Steinway vertical piano for which he paid $700, and that piano just sold for over $2,000,000.

Likewise, Horowitz didn't deface his Steinway concert grand, Elvis didn't scratch his name into his guitar, and...ummm...to my knowledge, a certain president never "made marks on his sax," or, ummm, vice-versa.

Bottom line: For a COLLECTOR, an individually AUTOGRAPHED tuba might be worth something. But for a player, the scratches on the horn have no relevance if the horn doesn't play as well as another one without the insignias. In fact, as others have posted, such marks might detract from the value of the horn.
