When Dale gets involved, things tend to go downhill quickly.

I've played both horns (at Dillons). I was especially impressed with the 52J. It spoke quickly, and had a great, even sound throughout. The extreme registers were impressive. The graduated bore (.687, .734 4th valve, .750 5th valve, according to the literature) makes for an amazing low register compared to other tubas of its size. The high register felt great also. I played these horns only in the store. My impression is that the 56J with its bigger (and seemingly heavier bell) would project better, but like I said, the lighter sound of the 52 was my initial preference. Both horns were bright silver. I'd like to try the laquered brass, and see how the sound is affected.

Hope this helps.......... I hope you can track one down, this horn is worth trying.
