I play on a Mirafone 186-5U, and its an all around great instrument. Mirafone has some of the best consistancy for intonation on the market, and the 186 suis all different types of playing possibilities. Not too big(Mirafone-188), so it plays great as a solo instrument, in small ensembles, and band. Its not the best for orchestral playing, so if you were planning on doing that primarily, the 188 would be the better choice. Anyway, just my .02 I LOVE ROSEY MY MIRAFONE-186. Oh, they run about a 5,000(great deal for a tuba of this quality). Also if you're interested, check out the Tuba Exchange model. I played the standard, and pro model at WW and BW, but in the end prefered TE's.
