I'm not sure why I'm responding, but here it goes...

1) A set of tuba dent balls from Ferree's Tools - $3500.00
2) The rods, hammers, cables and other tools needed - another $5000.00+
3) Ferree's Dent Machine - $3000.00
4) Other shop supplies and overhead- $$$$$??????
5) My time and experienece - priceless (sounds like a Mastercard commercial, huh?)

You get the drift. Many dents can be removed without disassembly. Some are hard to get. There isn't a location on a trumpet that I - or one of my student technicians - would need to disassemble the instrument for (although it is easier when the horn is apart). However, take a look at the many branches and the distance of an assembled tuba. If you can figure out to get to the forth branch without disassembly, I'd love to know the secret.

As far as the cost, most technicians are underpayed. Remember that I have a family to support as well. Hope that sheds some light on the situation. DLH
