Yeah, they ARE pretty big. However, the prototype and the later ones produced (if there ever were any) were about 1.5 oz lighter than the one you tried, if that is any consolation. If there is a Guinness book entry for heaviest tuba mouthpiece, the first production run of them would probably make it. Not that that's a bad thing to some people, of course :)
BTW, I conceived it for my 1290 (large piston horn w/ short leadpipe). It was also not intended for a 186 type of horn, but I had the opportunity to play one for about two months (made during the period when they were very thin metal) and I found it worked better than some of my other available choices; and I didn't want to buy a PT88 or something similar for so short a time.
