I am an 'intermediate' BBb Tuba player currently playing on a fairly new 4/4 Mirafone 186 horn. I am currently using a Benge 24 AW mouthpiece. Lately I have been wondering if there is anything I can do to improve my low-end range. I am looking for ANY advice on mouthpiece specifications [size, shape, etc...] that would make it "easier" for me to consistently (and cleanly) hit notes below G (octave below the staff). Will any of the larger (heavier) mouthpieces make a difference for an intermediate player like myself, ie the Bach Megatone or others? And I assume that any mouthpiece that helps with my low-end range will slightly diminish my high-end range, is this correct? Would appreciate your experience and advice, from beginner to expert. Thanks!
