I agree with Rob on this one. I play a fairly large tuba which I think most would describe as a 6/4 or at least 5/4, (whatever these numbers really mean!) but I can change its sound dramatically by changing mouthpieces. I believe Dr. Jacobs did this quite often. I recall him saying that it was a lot cheaper to have one horn and several mouthpieces rather than the opposite! IMO you can make a large tuba sound smaller but you can't make a small tuba sound larger.
