I personally believe that a tuba should be matched to the size and acoustics of the performance hall or venue that it is played in. If most of your playing will be in a concert hall the size that most major symphony orchestras play in, by all means seriously consider a 5/4 or 6/4 sized tuba. If, however, you plan to play with smaller groups in smaller venues, a 4/4 sized tuba would seem to me to be more practical.
