If you can borrow one, try a Bach 4G mouthpiece. It has the deep cup to prevent the too bright sound like the 1G, but supports your lips to keep you from going too flat like a smaller mouthpiece. I play a 4G most of the time and have found it is large enough to fill the low notes without too much rattle, and still allows a semblance of a high range even on a large horn.
