I have been dabbling in the effects of different vowel shape in the back of my throat and how to change timbres, and loud/soft playing to these occurences. I had thought about this too--*gulp* (I hope this doesn't sound off the deep end):

I wonder how we, as brass players, develop our sounds and if it has anything to do with the structure of our mouth, throat, and tounge. You know, why some of us sound "better" (which is really just different when it comes down to high-level professionals) than others. When I was a vocalist (and a terrible one at that), I learned about placement of vowels and projecting my voice. I learned alot about that and even though I was a horrible singer, it got me a scholarship my first semester in college, and taught me tons about musicality and how to change styles between Mozart to Mahler.

Anyway, back to the drawing room.
