And, if you or any of the group goes to a church, see if you can perform regularly on services there, either paid or for free. It's always nice having a steady venue.
I spent several years performing in a quintet with my mom back in church (she's been doing it since I was about 3 years old), and that experience (coupled with playing hymns alongside the church's fire-breathing pipe organ) was truly formative for me. I still draw knowledge from it, and I haven't played there in over six years.
Of course, I'm still kinda young...
