The 38k can be thought of as the predecessor to the 20k, the major difference being the 20k has short action valves and it is still being made today. A nicely restored 20k is around $2500. A playable beater is $1,000 or less. Your horn is rarer. If you were trying to sell it and could find someone looking for a 38k it would be worth a few hundred more than the 20k in comparable condition. However, I think you should play it and you will soon realize all other kinds of sousaphones should get in line behind you, because none will sound as good.
