Just don't make too much of a good thing. People tend to get carried away with the m.p. thing. Obviously, a mouthpiece is not going to make as much difference as the horn, and/or your own playing abilities. The main thing is to work with a good teacher in selecting a mouthpiece that makes sense with what your trying to accomplish. Try to go to a shop where you can try a variety of different makes and models. If you get confused, trust your teacher. You won't be able to tell much about a m.p. in the long run, unless you stick with it for a fair amount of time. Don't get caught up in the switching game - not only will it become counter productive, it'll become a drain on your finances as well.
The roads to great playing are working with a good teacher, good horn selection, lots of practice and also, listening to recordings. Put some of that m.p. money into your listening habits - it'll pay huge dividends.
