Advice on a King Euph

I recently picked up a 4 valve King euphonium made by H.N. White serial no. 25391. It is lacquer with an upright bell with the letters U.S.Q.M.C. engraved on it, and the finish is pretty decent. My question is this: the horn seems to play fairly well, but the valves need rebuilt. Is this horn worth putting that kind of money and effort into, or should I look for something else? Does anyone know the approximate age of the horn? How can I tell if it's a compensating horn? I'm not planning to do much playing other than in church and the community band (maybe tubachristmas). I'm just getting back into music after 10 years and any info from you guys "in the know" would be greatly appreciated.
