Like I said, the most important thing about marching band is not the music. Rather, it is getting in the habit of working towards excellence in something, and encouraging others to do so, also. Good for all of your kids!
Good point regarding who attends high school football games and why they attend. There is a lady band director that just took over a job here in Memphis, is "reaching out" to the coaches and atheletes, and has already established excellent relationships. Maybe 50% of these problems are caused by band directors and band students, rather than 100% of them being caused by coaches and atheletes.
