I couldn't agree more! That is why I added the caveat to my statement about Holton tubas being competitive in today's market only if they were made as well as they used to be. I am convinced that this design could be tweaked with some modern technology and made to be an excellent product. But, as you very correctly pointed out, the costs would be prohibitive and the endeavor would not make the company any profit, in fact might actually net a considerable loss.

That is why I constantly say that the demise of the York Instrument Company was a very dark day for the tuba world. If they were still around, experimenting with these designs might actually be economically feasible. I would also hazard a guess that such tubas would dominate the high end market hands down. Anybody got a couple million dollars and a time machine??? :)
