I finally broke down and bought a pair of tuning bits from Allied in hopes they would fit my old (1904-05) Pan American Eb sousaphone. They fit the receiver fine but I had to do a bit of trimming to match my old Apollo mouthpeice. The bit was just a shade too large and the mouthpiece bottomed out at the crook so I removed about 1/4" from the bit and about 1/4" from the mouthpiece. All is well and tone is pretty much right on. I guess this is the kind of stuff a guy has to do if he chooses to mess with horns almost 100 years old.!! Again, thanks for your advise.
