I have had the same problem with my old '70's B&S BBb. I had Mike Morse (Durham, NC) fabricate an extender sleeve. This add's way-over an inch and allows the vertical tuning slide to extend well beyond the plane of the bottom bow. It would not be useable except that I play w/ the DEG rest. I don't like the way it looks, but short of doing some major re-routing of plumbing, the extender was the quick & inexpensive fix. If you can work-out the fabrication issues for a curlyque tuning slide, I would be interested to see the result.
