You're not crazy. B&S did (does?) build these high. I think you can get a longer main slide from B&S. Matt Walters, I believe, has lengthened the main slide of some of these horns (I think I remember him talking about this). Europes standard of tuning is A=443, not A=440 and this is (was) reflected in some horns.
I have a 6P and it is dead on with A=440 because it is a newer horn set up for the U.S. market.
