Any music you have in that collection from auditions which is not public domain...that was more than likely a violation of copyright law. It is possible some of that may have gone in the fair usage category. Any others--violation! Going to make copies from a library's collection. Same thing.

Check the wording of the copyright law. Anything before 1923 is public domain(PD). After that, it gets a bit more difficult to determine. The fair use rule allows some copies of copyrighted material. I thought it very interesting that you would comment on the legality, or lack thereof, and then immediately switch to describing practices that are at least on the edge of legality themselves.
