The group was not a concert band, but rather a small German-style wind band of about 25 players. It was known before the gig that the other tuba player would not be at the concert (he plays a CC). The conductor liked the mix of the two instruments in normal conditions, but in light of the other person's absence I asked if he would prefer that I bring my BBb (Miraphone, which would certainly have been appropriate for this group). He said he and the audiences preferred the clarity of the high tuba, and requested that I bring the Yamaha. I was just followin' orders. Next time I won't ask.
