...I was going to say. I agree that knowing treble clef as a pianist and being comfortable playing it on the tuba aren't necessarily the same thing. Perhaps if Scott had made his sight-reading goals even more clear (ie "I'm auditioning for a service band soon" or "I have college ensemble placement auditions coming up in the fall" or "I want to be able to nail the sight-reading(?)in the next major orchestra audition" or "I just want to become the best musician I can"...except for the last, all very different goals), then the suggestions might have been more clef-specific.

I still think that knowing how to play in treble clef helps general musicianship, ear training (see it, hear it, play it), and thus command of the instrument to the point that it helps sight-reading in any clef, including bass clef, what you would see on a TUBA gig.
