It is my opinion that a breath should not be audible, however, there are times when it is very difficult to avoid. Such as when preparing to play a very extended passage (especially a single note, held) for which you would automatically try to draw the biggest gulp of air possible. Puffed cheeks, on the other hand are of little consequence other than cosmetic (Hello, Dizzy Gillespie). Again, these are just my opinions. I would think you can get more focused breath usage by not puffing the cheeks. but if it works for you and you produce a controlled stream of air - do it.
