Shouldn't be any trickier than drilling a small hole or two. That being said I've seen some buggered up vented valves before and it always seems like a bit of a tragedy. The fact that this question is being asked suggests that the repair tech either hasn't done this sort of thing before or doesn't quite 'get' how venting works. If that's not the case then leave him/her alone and let the professional do the work. If he's not acting supremely confident/looks confused by all the extra plumbing or doesn't always have the steadiest of hands I would take it elsewhere. You guys can stay friends without giving him the work but if the horn gets messed up it can never really be properly fixed when it comes to extra holes in valve casings.

Perhaps I'm just overprotective of multithousand dollar investments.
