Alone within the minor state in which I live there are very diverse language structures. We Danes have very few terms for ice/snow and grass/field/meadow.

But the Greenlanders and Faroeses, which are very dependent on their traffic mediums and the feeding of their livestock respectively have a dozen+ terms for each of these entities (again) respectively. Because driving the wrong road or letting ones sheep stay in the wrong mountain area can be disastrous.

Even if Norwegian and Danish are very closely related languages, the Norwegians of course are more dependent on precisely related information on snow, whereas we possibly can speak more precisely on some matters of growing agricultural plants.

The Norwegians for long have had a quantitatively strong movement of schoolbanding. When I was a member of the band winning the Scandinavian championship for brass bands in 1975 (in Oslo), the Norwegian bands were not even close.

A situation clearly reversed today.
