I played a 621 for a while and thought it was a great instrument. Works well for solo but I found it a little small (sound wise) for the quintet that I play in. (We have a pretty big sound). I also used it for some of the high orchestra pieces. All in all, it is very easy to play with a great low range. I have since become fond of the sound of the taller rotary valve F tubas and now have a Miraphone 6 valve 181. The size (sound output) is more what I need and the sound quality is more what I prefer. The Yamaha F tubas are really very good especially if you don't want to mess with learning how to ovecome the challenges below the staff that the rotary F's present. The size of the 621 (sound output) is really the only limiting factor of that instrument to be an all-around bass tuba IMHO.
