The leveling is aimed at high-school musicians. We play regularly out of the "Advanced" book, and it seems within easy reach of all college and most adult amateur quintets. The "Advanced" book is probably the minimum book that is performable on stage by adults.

The arrangements themselves are pretty good, and you could do a lot worse than these as a source for a basic half-hour repertoire. Even gigging quintets would not be embarassed to play many of the tunes in that book as filler between their more difficult pieces. No typical wedding-gig client would be upset if the whole reception music was out of that book, as long as you also cover the bride's (and her mother's) special requests.

The quintet I'm in has followed the same plan as you, but with the Advanced book rather than the Intermediate book.
