The University of Southern Mississippi has an excellent school of music. The program consistantly brings in guest artists. Some of those in the recent years have been Steven Mead, Doc Seversin, Yo-Yo Ma, Izstak Perlman(sp?), John Stevens, Blair Bolinger and many more. There are many playing opportunities as we have The Pride of Mississippi(marching band --- for those who go to college acually for marching band...:) ) Concert band, Symphonic band, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Jazz band, Tuba Ensemble and we are currently in progress of forming a brass band here in Hattiesburg.

The tuba ensemble has been invited to perform at such events as ITEC in Canada, ITEC in Greensboro and SRTEC as well as other various community events. In my four years here, this spring was the first semester that we have HAVEN'T been preparing for some huge upcoming event. Dr. Richard Perry is the tuba/euph instructor here and is great to work with. The atmosphere is very friendly and the campus is small enough not to lose your mind.

Anyway..blah blah blah...haha. Good luck with your search.
