I have a Sony setup (ECM-MS907 stereo mic and MZ-R37 minidisc player) that works wonderfully. I've recorded practice sessions, rehearsals, performances (indoor and outdoor) with amazing clarity, Heck, I even recorded a bunch of duet parts so I could play the minidisc and play the duet part with myself on the recording! Anyways, the mic was only about $90, and the player was around $200, but that was almost four years ago! Hope this helps!
