I believe the Mirafone clear mouthpieces were acrylic, which is also known by the trade names Lucite and Plexiglas. The Josef Klier plastic mouthpieces are the same. You can tell the difference by the fact that acrylic is extremely clear and will crack if stressed, and polycarbonate (Lexan is the GE trademark), though clear, has a slight blue or purple color and is not quite as clear. Polycarbonate will flex and bend, and is pretty much unbreakable but it will sometimes crack if there is sudden stress on a vulnerable part of it, like a sharp internal corner. Polycarbonate is also used for bullet-proof glass and lenses that need to have some flex. I suspect it's also what car windshields have sandwiched between the inner and outer layers of glass.
