Bob Pallansch is a great resource himself. Take a look at his Eefer sometime and ask him when it was made. There are some good online photo collections, just spend some time browsing. I love the Library of Congress, Berkeley Sun Site, Battle Creek public Library, Cincinatti Public Library, Go West Alliance, etc. Then, of course, there are the "100 year anniversary" books all the orchestras put out. We were looking at trombones for some time for amusement--bell size, triggers, and wraps. Look at Cincinnati when Bell was playing--can't see what he was holding (Cerveny) but there's a German wrap bass trombone and the trumpets all have rotary horns (not because they were German, in early years they do not).
