Dear Colleagues:

You are cordially invited to send your tuba/euphonium students (and yourselves of course) to a free clinic master class by Dr. James Shearer at Campolindo High School Thursday, May 15 at 3-4:30PM The clinic is sponsored by Yamaha Corporation and Best Music. Students should bring their instruments.

Parking is available on Moraga Road or in the back parking lot off Campolindo Drive. The bandroom is located next to the new construction on Moraga Road. Please inform your students of this opportunity and email your response to hbenstein(AT)acalanes.k12.ca.us (let him know how many are attending)

James E. Shearer holds a DMA in Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. He teaches tuba, euphonium, music history and music appreciation to graduate, undergraduate and honors students at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. In addition, he presents concerts, master classes and lectures as a Yamaha Performing Artist. An active soloist, Dr. Shearer has appeared throughout the United States in solo recitals and as a guest artist with various wind ensembles and orchestras. In 2000, he premiered the Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra by Samuel Hollomon at the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Canada. Dr. Shearer is equally at home in the jazz setting, and has recently completed a new music appreciation textbook entitled Jazz Basics: A Brief Overview with Historical Documents and
Recordings.

Dr. Shearer will be performing Samuel Hollomon's Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra, with the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra, Friday 5/16 at Los Medanos College in Antioch 8PM and Saturday 5/17 at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek at 7:30PM
