The U.S. stock market already went through that period some years ago. The focus on short-term profits is really a focus on hitting the numbers so that institutional investors will buy your stock. But I predict a return to less capital growth and more dividends and other profit-sharing. Getting rid of the tax on dividends would encourage that shift. Dividends have a much longer term focus, and will be good for stability. They will also drive down the influence of the movie-star CEO's.
