Hate to admit it but, as a "mature" recreational player I don't even know all the scales. I know the fingerings for sharps and flats but haven't got much of a clue as to the actual scales. Yes, I have all the method books and I do run scales when I practice. But, the truth is, I need most of my practice time to practice the music.

I play for the fun and experience. I have no aspirations for anything beyond the community group level. So far my lack of musical knowledge hasn't stop me from playing in several community groups and being asked to play in several others. I could play tuba every day of the week if I had the time. This is no reflection on my abilities as a tuba player, but rather indicates how desperate community groups are for tuba players.

As I've said before - if you have a tuba, a pulse, and a tux you've got a gig. At least in my neck of the woods.
