I could be wrong about this but didn't Lee Hipp attend (and maybe graduate from) SMU? I know that I played an excerpt session with a friend once at SMU, right after the Tulsa Philharmonic audition that happened in 1984(?). I took a quick trip down to Dallas to visit with a bass trombone playing friend and he managed to set up a full section (John Kitzman(sp?)-DSO & Principal T-bone from the then Ft. Worth Chamber Symphony) for us to sit with and read some excerpts. It was great! While there, I met Lee Hipp for the first time. I was under the impression that he was in school at SMU at the time. Lee certainly went on to some accomplishments in his career.
