Your point is well-made and your views have plenty of justification.

On the other hand, when the federal government is about 75% bigger than it should be, state governments are around 50% bigger than they should be, and local governments are surely at least 25% bigger than they should be...

...if we are ever to begin to make sense out of nonsense, all should probably consider efficiency in their own areas of personal interest.

*I personally like the idea of a $10,000 adjunct trombone/euphonium and a $10,000 adjunct tuba (subsidizing these two peoples' regional orchestra salaries) vs. paying a full-time person - on tenure track - $45,000-$55,000 + benefits who either plays trombone or tuba, and though highly-degreed perhaps (in some cases??) plays neither well enough to win a chair in the local orchestra.

*OBVIOUSLY, this particular made-up scenario can only be the case in some places. It goes without saying that there are many extraordinarily talented full-time low brass faculty.
