Okay, it's time for a stupid question. Why aren't rotor shafts made of (stainless) steel?
Electric motors and pumps get new bearings installed routinely and it's a minor operation. Why not with rotary valves? The cost can't be too much of a factor nowadays.
For that matter, why not sealed ball bearings?
