i use a fostex effect machine with a pre-amp (otherwise the signal has a difficult time getting through). git. pedals, etc. do not work at all with tuba (only the RAT, but minimal).
after many hours of experiments i have had much success and even wrote a solo piece for tuba and voice with effects. good luck to you and much fun!
